HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox, Chrome, and Opera extension that encrypts your communications with many major websites, making your browsing more secure. Encrypt the web: Install HTTPS Everywhere today.
HTTPS Everywhere is produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by using a clever technology to rewrite requests to these sites to HTTPS.
The HTTPS Everywhere plugin can ensure you are viewing the encrypted version of eBay pages. HTTPS Everywhere is an add-in for the Firefox browser that automatically detects if a website offers an encrypted version of the site to increase browser security. If an encrypted version is available, the add-in ensures that you browse the website with encryption, which is indicated by the “https” in the website’s address bar. The add-in does not keep you from viewing websites, such as eBay, and you will have full access to all auction and profile pages on eBay. It will ensure that when you visit areas of the eBay website that require confidential information that you will enter that area of the site with encryption turned on.
Instructions
1 – Launch your Firefox browser and navigate to the HTTPS Everywhere website
2 – Click the install link from the website and allow the add-in to install on Firefox.
3 – Restart the browser when the installation prompts you. The HTTPS Everywhere add-in will be active when you restart Firefox.
4 – Navigate to the eBay website as you normally would. When you attempt to access areas of the site that require personal information, such as the user log in page, your account page or billing page, the add-in will automatically ensure that you are using the encrypted version of the page for extra protection. You can confirm this by looking for the “https” in front of the URL address in the Firefox browser address bar.
Tips & Warnings
HTTPS Everywhere can only direct you to an encrypted page if the website provides an encrypted version for that page. Some areas of eBay do not have an encrypted version available, so the add-in can’t use encryption on these pages.
